The apprenticeship program at Mountwest provides an easy path for current workers in skilled trades programs to earn a degree.
Apprenticeship Readiness Program
This is a 9-week Short Term Training that will teach people interested in apprenticeships to have a basic level of understanding for what a DOL Registered Apprenticeship requires. Program completers should be able to transition smoothly into a DOL Registered Apprenticeship. Upon completion of the Apprenticeship Readiness Program participants will earn a micro-credential badge, 7 hours of Mountwest credit, a nationally recognized certificate from NCCER, and a course completion certificate from Mountwest.
The first cohort of this program will be taught at CJ Hughes Construction in Huntington, WV. The first cohort of this program begins January 7th and caps at 20 participants.

Requirements:
– 18 years old or older
– Please note that while there will not be a background check or drug test for the program, this may be required for future employment.

Let a member of our team know that you may have credits or work experiences that can apply toward a Mountwest program. We will evaluate your past transcripts and work history to see what can be applied toward a degree.
A 2-year degree is typically around 60 credit hours depending on which degree you are seeking. For our apprenticeship-degree completers, this will be an occupational development degree requiring 60 credit hours.
We are allowed to PLA in the following:
The Apprenticeship Completion can equal up to 33 credit hours depending upon the length of your apprenticeship.
The On the Job “OJT” Letter equals 12 credit hours.
Lastly, each student will need to take five 3 credit hour general education courses to acquire the remaining 15 hours for their 60-credit hour degree.
(This could be less if a student already has previous college credits they can transfer in).
Your advisor will let you know what classes you have left to complete your degree. Register for classes and complete your degree. Don’t forget to apply for graduation!

Students must complete a FAFSA to be eligible for financial aid. Mountwest’s school code is 040414. Our staff can help you complete the FAFSA from start to finish.
