Mountwest Community & Technical College and CJ Hughes Construction Inc. have partnered to offer a Utility Construction Certificate and a Utility Construction Management Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree starting fall 2022. Both programs consist of classroom and paid on-the-job training. The Utility Construction Certificate program (30 credit hours) is an 11-month program that prepares students for various positions on an underground/pipeline construction crew. The first eight-weeks of the program consists of a Safety Skill Set, after which students will attend classes one to two days a week and will be placed in paid on-the-job training 20-40 hours per week. Upon completion of the Certificate program, students may continue on to an AAS in Utility Construction Management (60 credit hours) for one year, where they will continue to take classes while working full-time in industry. The AAS program aims to improve students’ communication, computer, and business management skills in preparation for supervisory roles on crews. Financial aid is available for qualifying students.
