Veteran Tuition Resources

For those students currently in uniform, Mountwest Community & Technical College accept Federal Tuition Assistance (Fed TA) funding from Army IgnitED and The Navy College. If you are interested in using Fed TA to assist you in your educational goals, you must first contact your command’s education office for information, guidance, and approval.

 

If you are on active duty in the US Army or serve in one of its components, your tuition assistance funding will be obtained through Army IgnitED. Army IgnitED can be accessed via the web by searching, ‘Army IgnitED’ (https://www.armyignited.army.mil/), or by phone: 1-877-272-1330 or email: usarmy.knox.hrc.mbx.tagd-aces-education-portal@mail.mil.

If you are on active duty in the US Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or serve in one of their components, your tuition assistance funding will be obtained through The Navy College. The Navy College can be accessed via the web by searching, ‘Navy College Program’ (https://www.navycollege.navy.mil). For phone contact information, the Navy and Marines are directed to call 877-838-1659 (text messaging), 877-838-1659 for CONUS or 492-4684 for DSN, and the Coast Guard is directed to call 757-366-6578.

Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33)

Requirements:

  • Served at least 90 days of aggregate active duty service after September 10, 2001, or were honorably discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days.
  • Discharge must be honorable.

Benefits:

  • Tuition and Fees: Up to 100% of in-state public school tuition and fees; private or foreign school tuition capped at a national maximum.
  • Housing Allowance: Monthly housing allowance based on the cost of living where the school is located.
  • Books and Supplies: Annual stipend up to $1,000.
  • Transferability: Benefits may be transferred to spouses or children.

Montgomery GI Bill – Active Duty (MGIB-AD, Chapter 30)

Requirements:

  • Served at least two years of active duty.
  • Contributed $1,200 during the first year of service.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or 12 hours of college credit.
  • Honorable discharge.

Benefits:

  • Monthly Stipend: Up to 36 months of education benefits; amount depends on length of service, type of education or training, and category.
  • Types of Training: College, technical or vocational courses, flight training, apprenticeships, and on-the-job training.

Apply for Montgomery GI Bill – Active Duty (Chapter 30)

Montgomery GI Bill – Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR, Chapter 1606)

Requirements:

  • Six-year service obligation in the Selected Reserve.
  • Completed initial active duty for training (IADT).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Maintain good standing in the Selected Reserve.

Benefits:

  • Monthly Stipend: Up to 36 months of education benefits.
  • Types of Training: College, technical or vocational courses, flight training, apprenticeships, and on-the-job training.

Requirements:

  • Dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition, or died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition.

Benefits:

  • Monthly Stipend: Up to 45 months of education benefits.
  • Types of Training: College, technical or vocational courses, high school diploma or GED, correspondence training, apprenticeships, and on-the-job training.

Apply for Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance

Requirements:

  • Service-connected disability of at least 20%.
  • Discharge under other than dishonorable conditions.

Benefits:

  • Employment Services: Job training, employment accommodations, resume development, and job seeking skills coaching.
  • Education: Tuition and fees, books, supplies, and subsistence allowance.
  • Independent Living Services: For severely disabled veterans.
